LexisNexis & Westlaw are like two girls competing for my attention.

You have Westlaw – she’s the adorable one, the one you would take home to your mother. She’s safe, she’s warm, she’s straightforward and lacks any excess baggage. She’s like home. But there’s stuff she just won’t let you do that you’ve always wanted to try out (in-depth business records research, for example).

And then there’s LexisNexis – she’s the risqué one. She’s got experience that you don’t really want to know how she got, and she’s also got sass. She’s got a wild streak and an alcoholic tolerance typically reserved for Irish dockworkers. But she lets you do things that you’ve always wanted to try out (access to nearly every periodical, like, ever) as well as things that you didn’t even know were possible until you met her and that – to be honest – sortof make you blush (very detailed property records).

If I choose the one, I’ll always be wanting more and I’ll grow to resent her; but, if I choose the other it’ll be a mixture of the dizzying highs and terrifying lows that I know just can’t be sustainable…we’ll burn out after too long.

Either way, it’ll end in tears.
